Seven Day Battle
In the Lord’s condemnation all Jericho lay,
Its inhabitants knew on of God’s judgment day;
And the prophet called Joshua heard
God’s command.
He to summon together the Israelite band.
So they marched forward silently all of six days,
Until Sabbath arrived and their voices they raised,
And the blasting of trumpets rang froth in the night
As the walls were collapsed without even a fight.
Then the soldiers rushed into the Canaanites lair
Not a single man, woman, or child did they spare.
Except Rahab who feared God and risked her own life
In protecting the Jews that came to her as spies.
After Israel’s victory, Joshua swore
That the city of Jericho be built no more;
Lest the builders be cursed by the lords holy wrath,
Like their fathers, swept off of the
straight narrow path.
