King David Counted All His Men
King David counted all his men,
And would not take advice.
Poor Joab fought for what was right.
For God’s might would suffice.
As soon as David heard the count,
He cried unto the Lord,
“I beg you
take away the guilt,”
His foolish deeds abhorred.
But consequences there must be,
And David had to choose.
A punishment for Israel,
For sins he could not lose.
For David’s sin the people paid,
A plague God
sent killed men.
Yet God had grace, and spared their lives.
Now praise his name amen.
