3rd Place in the Hymn Writing
Contest
My Master Chose
My Master chose each
nail, each thorn;
He knew them in creation’s form.
He chose them so I’d never know
The death that I deserve.
My Master overcame His fear
He let them mock, He let them jeer;
Spoke not a word, but took the pain
That I might sing in joy.
O Master! You are King of all,
Creation’s ruler, Mighty God—
And yet, You chose to suffer death
That I might gain Your life.
My Master took the servant’s path
He chose to take God’s perfect wrath
As angels looked on helplessly,
He staggered, hung and died.
My Master lay in empty death
Let satan take his mortal breath
Yet walked in spirit on through hell
To break its gates for all.
My Master chose my heart in love;
He drew me in, called me to come
To follow Him through death to life
That I might one day be home.
O Master, choose my nail, my thorn!
Come, choose the way my will is torn
Out of my hands, so can be borne
Your powerful grace through me.

A Note from the
author:
The song was
actually suggested to me by my friend Nick Tracy based on
the
Max Lucado book title, "He Chose the Nails." I wrote
it several years ago (I try to write something for every
holiday, sometimes a song) and had come across it just about
the time I accessed your website. May you rest and rejoice
in God's blessings--grace and peace!
