This site was created in the fall of 2004 with the goal of
making an extensive database, including a collection of both well-known hymns
and those that are hard to find. It was amazing to see how many hymns have been
written over the years. By the end of
2005, we had compiled over 6,000 songs and we were nowhere near completion. By the end of 2006, we had over
10,000 songs, and became the largest Christian Lyrics website on the internet. In
2007 we expanded the website and created new features, including a polling
system to determine the most popular hymn of all time, and we also created two
Hymn-Writing contests for our visitors. The site continued to grow up to 11,000+
songs and we nearly reached 1 million visitors for the year (903,987). In 2008,
two staff members were hired to keep up with the high demand for Christian
hymns. We have high goals for 2008, including increasing our database to 15,000
songs, easier search functions, newsletters, new contests, and more. Our staff
is committed to providing our visitors with the hymns and other Christian songs
they are seeking.
This website was created with the inspiration of 1st Corinthians 10:31, which
states "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the
glory of God". This resource's main purpose is glorifying God and His Son, Jesus
Christ. All of the songs on this site point to our Creator, and especially the
mercy He showed us by sending His Son to die on the cross for our sins. Without
this sacrifice, we would still be at enmity with God, lost forever by the weight
of our sins, and all of these hymns found on this site would have been written
in vain. But thanks be to God for His wonderful grace. There are thousands and
thousands of songs on this site giving praise to God, and He deserves all the
glory.
